Hello 2021
My newsletters have been few and far between so I am sure this one will have you riveted.
It will soon a be year ago that COVID19 reared its ugly head and changed our world upside down. It has interrupted so many facets of our lives & tragically taken loved ones.
We are a resilient lot and we continue to rise up each morning and on most days we do give our best. We were told to stay home. Some of us made our kitchens our havens to escape. For me it was my studio, my mind more restless and anxious than ever. The uncertainty of this shaky future shook us, our families and our livelihoods.
It was at this time that as I gazed into much and into about 60 undyed woollen skeins. I realised I had to make. I had to share. I had to connect. It was getting lonely. This is how the beginnings of the To Dye For online workshop was born. I was greatly inspired by a Fijn Botanicals online purchase. The parcel arrived plastic free, newsprint paper, string and a handwritten card. Natural, without pomp and fair - just a dash of heavenly lavender & a lovely message accompanying the lovely products. This was the inspiration to plan and plot. The 'To Dye For' packages arrived in time for the first workshop on Saturday 4th July . The first Zoom minutes were nerve racking but that all fell away and 4 more workshops have been Zoomed since then. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and I thank each of you that took part. It was delightful seeing the many woolly images of colourful skeins.
Stellenbosch Studio workshops also came to a halt during lockdown period but after much consideration I held one in mid-November. All COVID-19 safety protocols were in place and a rather delightful group of participants enjoyed a very creative day on the farm.
The next 2 workshops are taking place this week. I have kept numbers down ensuring lots of space between everyone. The workshops filled up quickly and after much calendar gazing I am happy to share my future workshop dates, up to and including April, with you.
If wanting to book your spot in any of the workshops just tap on the 'book here' tab at the end of each workshop blurb and it will take you directly to the workshop you want. The website will email me your purchase and then I will send a safe payment link. If needing more information please email me ritatrafford1@gmail.com. Space is limited so book soonest as I don't want you disappointed. 'Workshops for Sale' can be viewed HERE

Delighted to announce that Esme Kruger from The Hand Printing Textile Studio in Swellendam will be bringing her 2-day lino printing workshop from Swellendam to Stellenbosch Studio and it is not to be missed. She is a lovely calm genuine teacher allowing one freely to explore this medium and with no set expectations. See her creativity on Instagram. An apron, a tea towel and an extra piece of 70x70cm size fabric is what we will be printing. I find the process very meditative and a craft that can easily be done in one’s home and quite inexpensively. Everything is supplied for the 2 days. All full day workshops include morning and afternoon refreshments with nibbles and a lovely lunch accompanied with some delicious de Trafford wines.
